Thoughts Please

by k2muskie » Sat Dec 14, 2013 8:50 am

We spent yesterday in the ER with our son Chris. He suffered a Spontaneous Pneumothorax (ruptured lung). Took chest xray and is left lung was partially collapsed. ER doctor told us this is common in young males who are tall and thin and perfectly healthy. Chris is 22yo. They inserted a chest tube to release air trapped in his chest did another chest xray and his left lung was re-inflated. Released Chris with the chest tube and he's at home now an doing okay. Have to take him back to see another Dr on Monday and re-xray of chest. If all is okay tube will come out and take it easy for a bit.

I don't ask for much but if you folks can keep Chris in your thoughts it would be greatly appreciated. He's a great kid hard working (this happened at work) and has the OCD of fly fishing. Thanks all!!!

Respectfully,
Kim and Kay

Yep! Thoughts and prayers as well. I've heard this does happen... happened to a friend of mines wife just out of the blue. Kindof strange to consider happening but the recovery rate is extremely high. Best wishes on a speedy recovery!

Thanks guys. He's doing better Kay's son had this happen to him when he was in High School but he had a total lung collapse. Chris had only partial. Rough night last night as he didn't sleep very good with the tube but all we can say is the ER staff at McKay-Dee in Ogden were awesome and can't say enough about them and Dr Sill. Even when the Dr released Chris wanted us to wait to show us the Xray of his chest before and after the tube was inserted...left lung was fully inflated. Right now he's just tired and relaxing with his girlfriend Maya watching TV. Main thing is he is doing okay breathing...again THANK YOU for the replies...means a whole lot to me... ;) ;)

He had a very good night last night was able to sleep and no pain. Made him poached eggs and toast for breakfast this morning. Hopefully come tomorrow with follow-up Dr visit x-ray will be good and the chest tube will come out. Again thanks for the thoughts and keep them coming his way much appreciated. :D :D

Update: Chris is doing really good. Xray on Monday after they clamped the tube off and had him walk around shows lung remained inflated. Removed chest tube and hopefully lung blister or cyst has healed. He's back to work and taking it easy. Followup xray this coming Monday. Thank all for the thoughts... :) :)
