Maybe a Stupid Question....

Why do folks leave their stingers (hitches) on their vehicles especially trucks?

I walk around the parking lots and 99.9999999 % of trucks have the hitches on including some with the entire trailer equalizer setup including with stabilzing bars pulled back and held on with rope on bungee cords. Is it me or are folks just.....hmmmm lazy or too busy or for protection in case of a rear ending...I just don't get it.

Laziness primarily.

I leave my normal hitches on year around... my equalizer hitch though I take off immediately when I am done towing that trailer, as I'm paranoid someone might steal it. Ironically, right now is the first time in over a year I dont have a hitch on my truck (took it off saturday).

It does offer alot of protection though when getting rear ended... totally trashes the vehicle that hits you though.
